YES! SMiLE is finally getting released! Billboard has the details. Put us down for the 4 CD/2 LP limited edition box set, please.
This is huge – Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks’ gorgeously demented, hokey, hash-infused tribute to Americana is, at long last, hitting the racks. After 44 years, it might wind up being an anti-climax of “Free As A Bird” and Chinese Democracy-like proportions (most of it has already been release in some form or another – legally or not – and let’s not even get into Brother Brian’s 2004 admirable yet strangely antiseptic solo version), but really – who cares? Just give us the fucking thing, already.
Before the inevitable griping about song selection, mixes, and track order begins, let’s just enjoy the anticipation, shall we?
And, of course, “Surf’s Up”:
This is an event in the truest sense of the word. “And your dreams come true”, indeed. Release dates & track listings to follow…
