YOU CAN’T SAY YES AND YOU CAN’T SAY NO: EXILE ON MAIN STREET REISSUE DETAILS ARE HERE!

- Released May 17, 2010 in the UK/May 18 in the U.S.
- Ten unearthed tracks, including “Plundered My Soul”, “Dancing In The Light”, “Following The River”, and “Pass The Wine” . Also featured are alternate takes of “Loving Cup” and “Soul Survivor”
- A 30 minute documentary called Stones In Exile which will feature footage from the original sessions at Nellcote and contemporary interviews with the main participants. Not to mention recent interviews with the band. So the question begs – who will be more coherent? ’71 Smacked Out Keef or ’10 Uncle Pirate Keef? Stones In Exile will also air on the BBC and U.S. network TV.
- There will be multiple versions of the set – the first one will be a single disc reissue of the original album. The second one will have the dozen-ish bonus tracks. The mega one will have all of the above along with the documentary on DVD, a 50 page book, and Exile on vinyl.
That said, we’re left moderately queasy and quite aggravated. OH, WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN…
- Why will we have to shell out $100 for the mega vinyl set in order to get the DVD and book? Shit like this is why bittorrents were invented, Sir Michael of Dartford.
- Some of the bonus tracks feature recent (by ‘recent’ we mean ’2009′) overdubs by Mick & Keith. A little guitar here, a little vocal there, a little percussion back there… not cool. Either release it vintage or don’t release it at all. And if you’re chomping at the bit to be in the studio again… it’s been five years since your last album – make a new one. For a band so concerned with their legacy, this seems akin to shitting all over it.
- Where are Ladies & Gentlemen and Cocksucker Blues? What about the Unreleased ’72 Live Album? Mono promo mixes of “Tumblin’ Dice”, “Sweet Black Angel” and “Happy”? The acoustic demo & alternate single take of “All Down The Line”? Gentlemen… what the fuck kind of ‘Deluxe Edition’ is this, anyway?
But there’ll be plenty of time for us to shred this for being a sacrilege rip-off after we buy it the day it comes out. The dee-lux fucking mega edition, no less. Possibly two – one to keep sealed for posterity, of course.
Until then, here’s Mick & opening act Stevie doing the bunny hop – from the Exile tour, July ’72:
