As always, we’re a little late to the party, but we just wanted to give a big thumbs-up to a very, very funny guy who, in the face of brazen corporate stupidity, walked away instead of being a schmuck and enabling the unimaginative bastards pulling the strings. Unfortunately tinted Les Paul aside, Conan O’Brien is a-ok in our book and while watching the whole soap opera unfold in real time over the last couple of weeks was bizarre, surreal, and vaguely depressing, we loved seeing him blow it all up, Sex Pistols-style. If that’s not rock & roll, then we don’t know what is.
And the use of the last great American anthem, “Surrender”, for the final clip montage was nothing if not inspired.
So here’s the band who gave us that fight song – the pride of Rockford, Cheap Trick – and if you’re in NYC, check ‘em out with us Monday night at Irving Plaza.
