Tighten Up
So… we’ve been off the reservation this week because of James Ellroy’s latest tome. 8 years and one nervous breakdown in the making, Blood’s A Rover is the third and final part of Ellroy’s Underworld USA Trilogy, which covers pretty much every nefarious government plot between 1958 and 1972. Blood’s may be the weakest of the three, but it’s still pretty damn good. Except for Red Joan – what the fuck was the point of her character? A old-school radical who, based on Ellroy’s description, strongly resembles Joe Perry? Sorry, Jimbo – we’re not buying in to your mommy issues here. But if American Tabloid and The Cold Six Thousand were both resounding A+s, Blood’s gets a solid B.
That said, it was great to spend some quality time with the black militant “criminal cartel named Archie Bell & The Drells”.
