BTRNR On 45, or a little bit of everything

- I’d like to give a shout-out to Red & Denton over at SURVIVING GRADY for quoting the Monkees‘ “The Girl That I Knew Somewhere” in yesterday’s (June 5th) entry. In addition to being seriously twisted and pretty damn hilarious, they’re by far the most rock n’ roll baseball blog out there and the first thing I read in the morning while listening to…

- MATT PINFIELD – Yes, the little bald dude with the gravelly voice from “120 Minutes” is the new morning guy on WRXP (101.9 on your FM dial in New York City, kiddies) and, as he’s an unashamed rock geek with superb taste in tunes, the best thing to hit the airwaves in quite some time. No co-hosts, no gimmicks, no format specifications, and hey – if Matt wants to spend a few minutes reminiscing about going to Dublin in 1990 and meeting Phil Lynott‘s best friend in a pub like he did this morning, then goddamn it, he will! Seriously, though, you don’t hear commercial radio like this anymore – do yourself a favor and tune in as your musical sensibilities will not, for once, be insulted.

Oh, and if you’re reading this, Matt, a little Redd Kross at around 7:30 AM every now and then wouldn’t hurt anybody.

- Crispy On The Outside has the lowdown on the Liam Gallagher/Gordon Ramsay televised food feud. Apparently, “bobbins” were dropped liberally.

- Hugh Jarrett, Jordanaire, died on May 31st at 78. He was the especially square-looking dude singing, snapping his fingers and clapping behind Elvis on Ed Sullivan and in King Creole. Granted, anybody would look pretty stiff next to E, so you can’t really pin that on Hugh. Jarrett was also a legendary DJ in Atlanta and, by all accounts, a hell of a guy. R.I.P.

- Micky Waller, British session drummer extraordinaire, bid adieu on April 29th after his liver conked out on him. He was 66. Best known for the ass-kickings (via the “Wallor Whallop”) that he delivered on the Jeff Beck Group‘s Truth and Beck-Ola, Micky also played on all the great early Rod Stewart solo albums and, in an interesting twist, got a law degree so he could personally sue the ass off the various parties who’d screwed him out of royalties over the years. He will be missed.

- And as a send-off for the weekend, here’s the greatest record ever made, the Easybeats‘ “Friday On My Mind”:
