These aren’t the droids you’re looking for… and other news
- Michael Stipe on the cover of the latest issue of Q, all bald and painted gold… don’t tell me you don’t see the resemblance:
- Al Jardine and Mike Love have apparently settled their dispute over the rights to the use of the Beach Boys’ name. Given the fact that, over the last few years, Brian Wilson finished Smile and toured both that and Pet Sounds to great acclaim all across the globe… file this (as with any other Wilson-less BBs incarnations) under “who gives a shit?” and move on. Though hopefully Al came out of this alright – he did get royally screwed over the name usage thing a few years back. We like Al. Mike? Not so much.
- As for Hawthorne, CA’s other favorite sons, The Almighty Redd Kross has just been added to this year’s Coachella line-up. With almost two years of reunion shows under their belt, hopefully the follow-up to 1997′s magnificent Show World will be out by the end of the year. Until then, though, Jeff McDonald’s podcast Hit It! will have to tide you over.
- And speaking of brothers in Los Angeles… Oasis decamped there last month to mix the follow-up to 2005′s seriously underwhelming Don’t Believe The Truth. The only news to have surfaced has been that Noel was turned away from Elton John’s Oscars party and that Liam got his eyebrows and chest waxed. To say that this does not bode well for a return to form would be an understatement. Ah, wait – further research has uncovered that Noel has also been stocking up on firearms. It’s not yet known whether this is in reponse to the actions of either Elton or Liam but it’s a good sign, regardless. BTRNR will be on the scene later this week to get to the bottom of things.
